Personal training courses in Australia? We Answered:
Hi,I re-qualified in 2008 (originally did Australian Institute of Fitness course in 2002 - but had to go back to office work for a while) I researched the different places, looking at prices etc, did look at AIF, but even though it was their course I had done, they refused to give me RPL and wanted to charge me the full price again.
Of the places I looked at Personal Training Academy Online (now PTA Global) had the best prices and seemed to off the best courses and resources - AND they did give me RPL and a discount for my previous study in 2002 with AIF.
Here's the link:

The course isn't easy, I did it by distance learning, you have to do a practical to get your qualifications, but they have an assessor in Perth so is not a major problem. You also have to do 20 hours in a gym for Cert III but they have (or they did, probably still do) an agreement with Fitness First and will help you with that.
I found the course excellent and it was definitely way more in depth than the AIF one (though the industry guidelines & registration process has changed since 2002 so needs to be) and I learnt a lot of interesting things on the course.
I passed, got my registration with no problem, sub-contracted for a while, but now have my own business as mobile personal trainer which I started in July last year :)
If you do study with and qualify through them and would be interested in sub-contracting as a mobile trainer , please get in contact with me, as I will be looking for at least one trainer withing the next 6 months - as I can only do so many appointments in a day!! :)
Good luck and if you have any questions, just give me a shout :)

H&R Block Tax Training Course + Australia? We Answered:
I did the H & R Block course in the USA. Yes, if you score highly enough in the exam you do get the chance to work for them if you want. however, as a first-year preparer, you may get laid off once the rush is over. You do not have to provide your own clients in the USA. Additional training in the USA means extra courses (at a discount) to allow you to prepare more complex returns next year.
H & R Block is not for everybody but it can be a useful start in taxation. At the very least it can be a bit of extra cash, but you do have to factor in the time you spend on the training course without getting paid.

H&R Block Tax Training Course in Australia? We Answered:
I recently helped a bookkeeper choose a tax course like this. I am a tax professional, so naturally I recommended that she do the most difficult looking course. It went for 3 months requiring one night a week attendance with training on tax software. It was with ITP Bondi Junction, cost about $1000 and the course materials were very in-depth and challenging. Actually, they were really good study materials - I was impressed.I was not impressed by any of the H&R Block courses - they seemed to be lighter on content, too short and didn't give software training. Different ITP practices offer courses of differing length. But if you are doing the CPA program then you would enjoy doing a more thorough and challenging tax preparation course which is practically focused with computer training. If you do well in their exam and attend every class then you will have a good chance of at least getting seasonal, casual tax-time work with them.
Even if you do not want a long term career with ITP, at least you'll be better trained and have more confidence in a real workplace because you learned more from their course. To become a tax agent you'll need at least 12 months experience preparing a variety of tax returns (see the tax agent board website for what is a "fit and proper person").
