A resistance training program suitable for an 80 year old male with type 2 Diabetes?

We Answered:

As a youngster of 59 that would be YES. I am a type 2 who walks 4 miles a day to get to work. I have a in-house gym. I am looking for better muscle tone, so I do higher reps and lower weight. All my exercise elevates my heart a little. End goal I controlling my glucose levels by burning more glucose through exercise.

Best Wishes.

Alan Said:

Do you consider fitness swimming more cardio or resistance training?

We Answered:

Swimming is a mix of both cardio and resistance training, however, it is important to continue a resistance training program on dry land. It will help to increase bone density which can be lost in the pool since you are not using all of your body weight, and to strengthen your muscles even more. If you want to increase your resistance training in the pool, you could use bouys, paddles, swimming chutes, or stretchchords.

Annette Said:

Will my eating habits help me lose weight with HIIT program and resistance training?

We Answered:

Fat loss is 90% diet and your diet kinda sucks, your carb/protein ratio is too high for a start. Have you found out your BMR (basal metabolic rate) to establish how many calories you should be eating for weight loss?

If you want to ask training or diet questions then a great place to ask is www.thestrengthsociety.com as they have some great experts there

Julio Said:

How much resistance training do I need if I swim?

We Answered:

It sounds like you're doing quite a bit already. I think as long as you are getting in two resistance sessions a week, that you should be fine.
