Inside Sales Training

Derrick Said:

How can I train my inside sales staff to do "cold calling"? What kind of script can I supply them with?

We Answered:

Just type up a one page script as you would do it:

"Hello, My name is Jane. I work for ABC company. We're a distributor of building materials, including bricks, nails, lumber, etc. Who is the person in your company that buys those kind of items?

May I speak to him/her please?

thank you.

For the decision maker:

Hello, My name is Jane. I work for ABC Company. We distribute bricks, lumber, nails, and related construction products. Do you purchase those products for your company?

What kind of products does your company use?

Where are you currently purchasing them?

Could I have my boss, Mr Brown, stop by and give you a catalog of our items? Would Tuesday at 10am be a good time for him to stop by?

Thank you.

Jennifer Said:

How do I get started in the commercial insurance industry? (sales)?

We Answered:

The first thing you need to do is get some experience and about the only way to do that is in a trainee job. (I personally started out as a claims adjuster). You have to learn the insurance business. Most states require insurance agents to be licensed. It's a bit difficult to pass the license exam if you don't know anything about insurance.

There are also property casualty courses that you can take at most colleges. A Tech College or Junior college might be your best bet to start looking at that. It would give you the basics of what insurance is. There are so many different types of policies, especially in the commercial end of the business, you definitely need some background to get into this. Otherwise, you'll wind up getting sued for errors and omissions for not providing your client with the proper coverage.

Start with any of the major insurance companies or a broker. Most of them are always looking for trainees that want to get a start in the business.

I dont really know what my 'niche' is?

We Answered:

Apply at another publisher or stick it out until you get your MBA then move on. Business is pretty cut throat so don't feel bad that no one gives a crap about you. That's normal.

Potty trained Dog is pooping inside, please help?

We Answered:

It seems to be assoicated with you leaving her so I would say separation anxiety is a point to consider. Since you said sometimes she even does it when you are getting ready, that to me says she is stressed by you leaving.

Is there any treat that she loves that you could start giving her right when you leave? Maybe peanut butter in a kong? Something that she is so happy to get she barely looks up when you leave. That might help her assoiate you leaving with a treat and reduce her stress.

Tips on how to be good in sales...?

We Answered:

just try and be open and friendly, don't try and sound all business like as that can immediately put people off.. but then again don't go to the other extreme and be too laid back!

think of the traits you see in a person that makes them approachable and mirror them =)
