It seems waiting tables and the supermarket cashier are the predominant part-time jobs that foreign students in Japan get. Both are customer-oriented and require a level of fluency in Japanese, so even if you get the job, it might be tough to keep it until you gain minimum fluency.

If you're from Britain, waiting at one of the many British pubs might be an option, if the late night hours are compatible with your studies. Ads would be best found in free English community papers in Tokyo.

I am writing to formally apply for the above mentioned post. Currently I am employed as a Learning Support Assistant on a contract basis at (school name). I enjoy working with children very much and feel well suited to the existing working environment. I have gained a lot of valuable experience and knowledge from the course “Montessori Assistant Certificate III” and from all the experienced staff that I currently work closely with.
